Eighteen years ago I came into contact with wine. Thirteen years ago I became a member of the local wine club (CVU) and my love and interest in wine grew even greater. Reading but certainly tasting a lot made me decide to use Vivino.
First in Dutch and then in English. With almost 1,500 reviews it seemed time for something new. I started an Instagram account and started posting my wine reviews on Instagram as well. That was almost six years ago now. I now have a good 94,000 followers there and have contacts with major wine producers worldwide. Besides Instagram, I also manage the blog The Story of my Wine with many international visitors. I also followed the Wset2 and Wset3 course.
The first introduction to Priorat wines was through Vivino. I studied this wine region and ordered several wines from the area to try. The love for these wines has not disappeared since then. Wines that can be drunk young but can also age beautifully. A relatively unknown area in the Netherlands. An area that really needs to be put on the map in the Netherlands.
I have always been a wine drinker, but as the years went by I became more interested in the world of wine and made several wine trips. I also did the WSET3 course and thus acquired more knowledge and learned to taste in a structured way.
My first introduction to Priorat wines was through a wine store friend. In 2018 I took a wine trip to Priorat and the love for the region, the people and the wines was born.
Priorat wines to me are complex, exciting wines that never cease to amaze me. From reds and whites and whether they are young or already older, I continue to enjoy them.
My passion for wine started about twenty years ago. And especially for wines from beautiful Italy. There alone I have visited several hundred wineries. When an Italian winegrower friend of mine asked me in 2009 if I could get him a spot on the shelves in the Netherlands, I started looking for sales opportunities. I loved being involved with wine in this way.
So in 2010 I decided that I wanted to start importing wines myself. Fine wines of exceptional quality, with a real story, from small winegrowers with love and passion for their profession. That was the beginning of LaPiuma Vini, the wine company that I still enjoy running with my brother.
On a beautiful tasting evening in 2021, Goswijn and André wanted to convince me of the quality of wines from the Priorat. All it took was a few nice bottles. Together we concluded that this beautiful region is actually heavily underexposed in the Netherlands. That evening PrioratWines saw the light of day.
