This Giné Giné 2019 from winery Buil & Giné is a blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan sourced from 20-40 year old vines from the districts of Bellmunt, Gratallops, La Vilella Baixa, El Molar, La Vilella Alta, El Lloar and Torroja.
Wine & Spirits Magazine gave the 2018 'Giné Giné' a score of 95 points and in the process also included it in the 'Top 100 Values of the Year' and awarded it as 'Best Buy 2021'.
Giné Giné is the first wine made by and named after the Duo Buil i Giné. Here they seek a pure expression of Priorat wine with the two indigenous varieties Garnatxa and Carinyena. No barrel aging or overextraction, just pure expression of the terroir.
In the glass a deep ruby red colour with a deep black core.
In the medium(+) nose, aromas of cherries, raspberries and plums with hints of spices, graphite and smoky notes.
On the palate, the blend is equally complex, with firm yet supple tannins, impressive depth and elegant freshness. The suppleness and roundness of the Grenache alternate with the backbone of the Carignan. The finish shows black pepper and a nice long aftertaste.
To enjoy this wine now, we recommend decanting it a few hours in advance. A big boy with a friendly price tag.
Fits perfectly with:
Dishes with floral accents, with aromatic herbs, pepper, anise or cinnamon, balsamic notes, toast or pastry, as well as robust, meaty fish. Furthermore, stews and casseroles, spicy dishes and risottos.
The different grapes for this red blend are fermented separately at a temperature of 26 ºC to 28 ºC. The maceration is long, followed by the malolactic fermentation. Once this process is complete, coupage and bottling are carried out.
Each batch is then transferred to used wooden barrels. There, the individual wines undergo biological acidification before being allowed to mature on their lees in stainless steel tanks. Only in the spring of the following year does the final blending of the wine take place.
