This 2018 Carmi is a blend of 80% "the forbidden grape" and 20% Garnacha. This forbidden grape is the best kept secret of Buil and Giné. In 2002, Xavi per tasted this grape at a tasting of Garnatxa wines. It was another grape that accidentally got into his glass.
This wine was harvested last week of September 2015 and then placed in oak barrels from March 2016 to February 2018.
This powerful yet subtle adolescent needs time to mature to express all its delicate fruitiness, with spicy and floral notes. Perfect with roast veal, or a leg of lamb with vegetables prepared in olive oil.
In the glass a deep red color with purple reflections.
In the medium(++) nose aromas of blackberry, dark cherry and blueberry with notes of vanilla, wild flowers, tobacco and spices.
In the mouth dry with a full powerful body. Still youthful with huge potential. Medium(+) ripe tannins, medium acidity and nice length on the finish.
Pairs perfectly with:
Veal, lamb and pork stews, always with lots of vegetables, mushrooms and olive oil.
"Our founder, Xavi Buil, had an amazing experience in 2002. At a wine fair he was tasting Garnacha from different parts of the world. By mistake, someone put a forbidden grape in his Garnacha glass!
What a great mix! He loved it and began researching how to work this forbidden grape in our region. Preliminary conclusions were that it should give us great fruit, so why not try, experiment, learn.... and... we did it, in January 2003 we planted 1,500 of these vines in our Llicorella soil. We coddled and loved them like parents get up and love adopted children, of foreign origin combined with a warm, sincere and local culture that make a perfect synergy possible. What a wealth!
In 2006, we started experimenting and learning. 8 years later, after the 2014 harvest and elaboration, our forbidden vines became 'local' and our knowledge richer. They, we, we all made an integration effort.
Then we decided to make our first Forbidden - Garnacha, to share with you all in 2015. Here you have the fruits of all those efforts full of passion, love and science."
