    About this wine

With Planetes de Nin Blanca 2021 Celler Nin Ortiz offer us the opportunity to taste a white cariñena from één single varietal from Priorat Priorat Priorat. The wine is aged for 6 months in amphorae of clay and 3 months in oak barrels and gives us the chance to rediscover this  grape that incorporates the rustic and the terroir without sacrificing elegance.

While the Selma from Nin-Ortiz comes from high altitude in Penedès, the Planetes Blanco grows outside the gates of its birthplace of Porrera.

The vines grow on the typical Llicorella slate, i.e. red and blue slate composite. The tillage at Nin-Ortiz is done out of deep conviction, biodynamically certified according to all rules. Ester Nin and her husband Carles Ortiz were among the first biodynamic experts in the Priorat.

After selective manual picking, there is a 24-hour cold maceration of the whole grape, and then spontaneous fermentation takes place in old, closed 300-liter barrels, where the wine remains for another 8 months without yeast to finish. Expansion is always carried out without sulfur if possible, only a minimal dose is added before filling. This leads to a wine that, despite its youthful power, is very open and appealing, but certainly not fruity.
