Red wines from Priorat - Nit de Nin Coma d'en Romeu 2021

Nit de Nin Coma d'en Romeu 2021

Familia Nin Ortiz

Druiven100% Garnacha

The Nit de Nin Coma d'en Romeu 2021 from winery Celler Nin Ortiz is a monocépage of 100% Grenache. The 2020 vintage had a wonderful score of 99/100 Robert Parker.

Coma d'en Romeu is a warm, south-facing vineyard oriented "costers" on the so-called "costers" with an extremely steep slope with bush vines. Here there are 70-100-year-old vines on pure, slightly lighter shale soil. A few years ago, by chance, there was an opportunity to take over the entire vineyard and they began experimenting with vinifiërening the wine alone and separately.

With this 100% Garnacha, spontaneous fermentation takes place in open wooden vats with whole bunches. Further aging takes place in 225 to 600-liter barrels. 2015 was the first vintage of this monocépage.

  • Tasting note Nit de Nin Coma d'en Romeu 2021

This Nit de Nin Coma d'en Romeu 2021 exhibits a deep dark red color with purple reflections.

In the nose beautiful aromas'of black cherry, plum and elderberry with hints of herbs, lavender, sage and balsamic hints.

This deep, floral-spicy perfume gives the wine a very charming style alongside its otherwise terroir-driven fruit and rock-solid, flinty schist-granite structure. Soft, phenolically perfectly ripe tannins round out the Coma d'en Romeu. Despite its full maturity, creaminess and immense density, the Coma d'en Romeu retains the style-defining freshness and lightness that is always a hallmark of Nin-Ortiz.

    Fits perfectly with:

Spicy foods and game, roasted meats and vegetables, stews, heavier feathered game (e.g. turkey) and curries's.

    About this wine

Robert Parker gave 99/100 Parker points to the 2020 vintage and described the wine as follows.

The Nit de Nin La Coma d'en Romeu has the elegance, subtlety and perfection of tannins, which are impressive. In 2020, when they lost most of the harvest, they were able to make even more bottles of this wine, 1,500 (up from the 1,200 of 2019), because when they saw the risk of mildew, they hired FIVE MORE PEOPLE to work their vineyards. That saved most of the harvest; overall, they lost 25% of their grapes, especially young vines and Cariñena; but in the old vines and in Garnacha, they did not lose much; and in La Coma d'en Romeu, which is old vine Garnacha, they got the full harvest. The grapes ripened perfectly and the tannins are super fine, and the wine is pure, detailed and clean. 99/100

While we have fully ripe, powerful Priorat wines here, Nin-Ortiz always manages to maintain the perfect balance. This is a charming Garnacha and a great representative of its homeland. Without a doubt one of the greatest and at the same time most beautiful wines of Priorat.
