The La Rodeda 2021 from winery Celler Nin Ortiz is a red wine made from 80-year-old Garnatxa Peluda (Hairy Grenache)
. The red La Rodeda is the unicorn of the estate. Made from 80-year-old Garnatxa Peluda, from the La Rodeda vineyard, near Mas d’en Caçador. A small vineyard of 0.4 hectares.

La Rodeda has its own terroir and northern exposure, which is why it is now vinified separately. Coal shale with reddish quartzite. Old, specific Priorat soil. Vines over 75 years old, true to the roots, only Grenache in bush form. An old type of Grenache called Peluda, more delicate and fresh, also a bit more primitive in expression. At an altitude of 450 meters in the north.

The overripe grapes are removed and the whole bunches are fermented with their natural yeasts, having been trampled on the old-fashioned way. Maturation lasts 19 months in één single barrique. Production: 300 bottles

  • Tasting Notes La Rodeda 2021

    This La Rodeda 2021 from winery Celler Nin Ortiz exhibits a deep ruby red color with purple reflections.

    Elegant and complex nose of red and dark berries, mineral and spicy notes and a hint of licorice. 

    In the mouth, the wine has texture, class and distinction with a perfect balance of acidity and dryness and a perpetual finish.

    Pairs perfectly with:

    Beef, lamb, stews, game, tenderloin, roasted/grilled meats, Spanish jamon and hard cheeses.

    About this wine

    Robert Parker gave the 2020 vintage 97 Parker points and described the wine as follows.

    The La Rodeda has a much softer texture, very fine and ripe tannins, quite abundant but fine, and the oak feels better integrated. The 2019 aged in a barrel for second use, and this 2020 aged in a barrel for third use. The wine shows more clarity. This is a very scarce bottling from a small plot that 's not getting any sun at noon and thus is protected from the heat. 304 bottles were filled in April 2022.

    Sourced from a single vineyard "Tros de la tereisna i Daniel", a small plot of only 0.6 ha planted with Garnacha Peluda a strain of the traditional local Garnacha, with a more rustic character but which creates fine and delicate wines, vines about 80 years old growing on a steep slope of black slate soil, above the village of Porrera. Organic and biodynamic farming. Harvested by hand. Fermentation with natural yeasts and aging in new oak barrels.
