Celler Cal Pla

The Planots 2014 by Celler Cal Pla is a blend of 50% Garnacha and 50% Cariñena from more than 100 years old vines at an altitude of 500 metres. Manually harvested with very low yields; the average yield of only 0.5kg per vine is extremely low. This top organic wine from Celler Cal Pla has matured for 16 months in new French oak barriques.

    The Planots 2014 shows in the glass a deep red colour with purple rim.

    A medium++ astonishingly beautiful nose with delicate aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries, blueberries with well-integrated hints of black pepper, spices, cedar and chocolate.

    On the palate, dry, full-bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ ripe tannins. Very complex and concentrated aromas of ripe black plums, blackberries, liquorice, spices and light vanilla. Delicious, fresh and concentrated wine from Priorat with a nice long finish. Still young with a beautiful life ahead of it.

    Fits perfectly with:

    Rustic dishes that reflect the rugged terrain of the area are perfect pairings for Priorat. Game, roasted vegetables, sausages and pepper stews withstand the wine's tannins. Hearty vegetarian dishes based on legumes, such as Catalan lentil soup with picada, stand up well to the wine's bold aromas and flavours.

    About this wine

    Planots is the premium wine of Cal Pla, with a very limited production. It is made with an average of 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan. The vineyards were planted 100 years ago by the grandfather of Joan Sangenís, facing south, on sloping slate soils, at an altitude of 500 metres. The grapes macerate for 30 days with their skins, fermentation is carried out in deposits at a controlled temperature and they remain in new French oak barrels for 16 months.

    The Planots 2012 tastes even better after a while in the decanter. The wine has a very good storage potential. This wine will keep very well in the coming years and will become even more complex with time in bottle.
