The Vall Llach 2005 (now called Porrera Vi de Villa) is the top wine from Vall Llach. This wine is made from the oldest vines (older than 100 years) and can age beautifully. The composition is 65% Carinena, 15% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot
Many of the Carinena vines for this cuvee are pre-phylloxera. A true Cult wine from Vall Llach.
The 2005 is still alive and kicking and scored 96 Robert Parker points.
The Vall Llach 2005 is deep dark in color with brownish rim.
In the nose lots of dark ripe fruit like plums, black cherries and black currants with notes of granite, eucalyptus, tobacco and cedar.
On the palate full, rich, minty, balsamic. Blackberries and black cherry. Intense silky finish. Now perfect to drink.
Pairs perfectly with:
Aged cheeses, spicy dishes, grilled, roasted, stewed game: boar, duck, grouse, pheasant, game, und meat and lamb.
Robert Parker notes in 2008:
The flagship 2005 Vall-Llach is composed of 65% Carinena, 15% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot aged for 12 months in new French oak. Many of the Carinena vines for this cuvee are pre-phylloxera. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up a splendid aromatic array including pain grille, slate, mushroom, espresso, garrigue, blueberry, and black currant. Opulent, full-bodied, and rich, this pedal to the metal Priorat possesses 8-10 years of aging potential. The winery claims it can be cellared for up to 50 years; that could well prove true although many of us will not be around to find out or our delay of gratification will have long given out.
