Red wines from Priorat - La Florens 2023

La Florens 2023

Josep Grau Viticultor

DruivenGarnatxa Tinta

La Florens 2023 is an elegant and powerful red 100% Garnatxa Tinta from Josep Grau Viticultor, made from very old vines (80–100 years) in Capçanes (D.O. Montsant). The vineyard is located on clay-limestone soils at an altitude of approximately 340 m and is managed organically and by hand to maximize the expression of the terroir and grape. The harvest is strictly selected. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks and large 2,500 L Austrian oak foudres. The wine is then aged for 14 months sur lies in foudres of approximately 2,500 L, preserving the pure fruit expression while creating complexity.

    About this wine
    • The wine is named after Josep Grau's mother, “Florens” being the diminutive he used to refer to her – a symbol of serenity, warmth, and subtlety.
    • The vineyard is a mix of three ages (40–100 years), but La Florens selects only plots with centenario vines for maximum concentration.
    • Organic viticulture with minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentation, sur lies, maintenance of biodiversity
    • The wine has an excellent reputation: previous vintages received scores of 94–95 Parker / James Suckling / Tim Atkin
    • Robert Parker gave the wine 95/100 points, Tim Atkin 96/100, and Guia Penin 96/100.
    • James Suckling: “One of the 100 best wines from Spain and the only one from DO Montsant.”
