The Vinyes Velles Selecció Especial Magnum 2015 by winery Ferrer Bobet is a red wine made from 100% Cariñena.
The Selecció Especial is 100% pure Cariñena coming from centenary vines in the village of Porrera, planted on slopes (not terraces) mostly northeast facing in search of freshness. The grapes are één chosen by één and fermented in oak after which it is allowed to 'grow up' in new French oak barrels.
The grapes are harvested manually in 10 kg crates. Grape by grape sorted on a double sorting table and transferred to tanks by gravity. Fermentation in 15 and 30 Hl. wooden barrels. Malolactic transformation and maturation in new fine-grained, medium lightly toasted French oak barrels for 18 months. Bottled without clarification or filtration. Minimum bottle aging 11 months.

This Vinyes Velles Selecció Especial Magnum 2016 from Ferrer Bobet winery shows a deep ruby red color with purple reflections.
In the nose, beautiful aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries and plums with hints of balsamic, cedar, chocolate and spices.
On the palate, this Especial is full bodied with grainy tannins and great intensity and power, but extremely balanced. This has concentration and fresh minerality and is very balanced. Ripe fruit, cedar, wonderful acidity structure, creamy, spice, polished tannins and long finish.
Advised, however, is to decant the bottle half an hour beforehand. Only 3000 bottles of this vintage have been produced. This beautiful wine should not be missing in a nice Priorat collection.

The 2016 Selecció Especial Magnum, pure Cariñena from centenary vines in the village of Porrera, matured for 19 months in new French oak barrels. 2015 was a hot and dry year with some rains in June that saved the harvest. 2015 is a powerful and concentrated vintage, and it has all the classic Priorat notes of graphite and wet slate along with the elegant rusticity that only the best Cariñena is capable of.
It has a full-bodied palate with glossy fruit and dusty tannins, powerful but neatly balanced. The finish is dry, with a dark, stony sensation.
