Red wines from Priorat - Clos Monlleo Seleccio Cariñena 2011

Clos Monlleo Seleccio Cariñena 2011

Sangenís i Vaqué

The Clos Monlleo Seleccio Cariñena 2011 from winery Sangenis I Vaqué is a monocepage of Carignan from the Les Roques Llises vineyard, more than 50 years old. The grapes for Clos Monlleo Seleccio Cariñena always come from the same, high-altitude locations. The yield is unprecedentedly low: about 500 liters per hectare! The wine matures for 18 months in new French oak barriques (Allier).

The wine is not filtered or clarified. A limited production of 300 bottles are made of this top wine. Even stricter selection, even more intense and complex. The top wine from this winery located in Porrera Monlleó is the family name of Pere Sangenís ancestors who grew vines and made wine for centuries.

Tasting notes Clos Monlleo Seleccio Carignan 2011

This Clos Monlleo Seleccio Cariñena exhibits a deep dark red color.

In the medium(++) nose dried red fruits, red and dark cherries and plums that merge in its aroma’s with the spicy and toasted notes of the barrel, graphite and spice.

In the mouth it is concentrated and structured, but also intensely mineral with sweet and silky tannins. The blend is dressed in smoky tones that remind us of the hours of the day when the sun warms the stones of the vineyard. The barrel is perfectly integrated, enhancing only the virtues of a fruit of exceptional quality. It is long, very long.

Fits perfectly with

Stews, roast lamb and aged cheese.

About this wine

The entire grape selection process is carried out in the vineyard. The harvest is entirely manual. Only completely healthy and ripe grapes arrive at the winery in 18 kg boxes.
The Clos Monlleó Selecció Carinyena is vinified in the old underground tanks covered with ceramic tiles. After 30 days of maceration, it is pressed and undergoes natural malolactic fermentation. The barrels are then filled, where they remain for 15 months.
