The 2020 Les Sentius from winery Joan Simó is a blend of 60% Grenache, 10% Cariñena, 15% Syrah and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Grenache comes from younger vines in Bellmunt with a smaller percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon from the village of El Molar. Grapes are harvested manually followed by cold pre-fermentation maceration. Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature takes place in fiber tanks. Total maceration time is 20 days. Malolactic fermentation in vats. Then for 15 months in 1st and 2nd year (50% and 40% of Les Eres) and 10% new French oak barrels.
This Les Sentius has a vibrant medium dark ruby color.
In the medium(+) nose aromas of cherries, blackberries and plums meld with spice, black pepper and notes of cedar, licorice and coffee.
A medium(+) mouthfeel with medium acidity and fine medium tannins. Flavors of ripe cherry, licorice, pepper, blackberry, plum and smoked meat. Nice medium(++) long intense finish with lots of expression in fruit and minerality.
Fits perfectly with:
Grilled or roasted red meat, lamb, game, spicy stews and heavily aged cheeses.
This red blend is the second wine of winery Joan Simó. 8,000 bottles of this wine are produced annually and 1,000 magnums. Les Sentius is vinified from over 80 year old vines of Grenache, Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The resulting low yields give this wine concentrated fruit intensity, complexity and a long finish.
All grapes come from the 12 ha vineyard in Bellmunt del Priorat and from the 150 ha estate in La Garranxa (Porrera). The goal is to produce top-level terroir wines that perfectly reflect their origins and embody the noble character of Priorat. The limited size of the estate means they are perfectly able to pay extreme attention to every aspect of the vinification process.
